NEWS RELEASE - 30 December 2007
Wellingtonians are invited to show their support for the people of Pakistan, following the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, by signing a Book of Condolences at the High Commission for Pakistan tomorrow (Monday 31 December).
Acting Wellington Mayor Ian McKinnon will sign the book tomorrow morning – and is urging Wellingtonians to do the same.
“We have all been appalled by the gross act of cowardice that has taken the life of Ms Bhutto,” says Mr McKinnon.
“This was also a cowardly act against the people of Pakistan, including members of the Pakistan community in Wellington and New Zealand, and against democracy itself.
“Signing the book of condolences will be a way of showing support for the people of Pakistan – and for New Zealand’s Pakistani community – in these trying times.”
The High Commission for Pakistan, at 182 Onslow Road, Khandallah, will be open between 10am and 5pm tomorrow.
